About Ranza Clark

I’ve always been a painter, a collector of art books and a visitor to art galleries. In other words, I’m self-taught by passion alone.
When I moved to Gabriola Island in 2009, I began to paint more than I ever had before in my life, primarily in oils, on both wood and canvas.
The collections displayed here represent more than a decade of inspired painting, island-style.
I don’t know how to describe my art, except to say that somehow in spite of my best intentions, a simple story book style insists upon emerging each time I begin to move my brush.
I start out with a gentle palette and a determined vision, then off I go getting lost in the woods again.
Eventually I find myself and realize I’m completely at home with what I didn’t mean to create.
Hence I’ve decided that somewhere in the woods belongs the true joy of painting.

In Wildwood Garden
Here in the garden, after the winter sleep, flowers, shrubs and trees come to magnificent life from spring to fall.
Designing, planting and caring for the garden is a never ending work in progress of the best kind. There are quiet places to sit and reflect and be at peace.
Between the frog pond and the foxgloves you’ll find the tiny but delightful Deer Trails studio featuring my current artworks as well as selections of my greeting cards, as well as flower seeds I’ve harvested and packaged.

We are open most Sunday afternoons from May to September… just look for the road sign.
